Capital Bocking has been the largest annual USA meet-up and we will continue the tradition of excellence!

Experts on stilts from across the country will again descended upon Washington DC, leaping, bounding and performing acrobatics in competition.

Don't have stilts? We would love to have new participants and supportive spectators / photographers. If you have been waiting to try a pair of stilts for yourself, note the last event, which will be an extra special opportunity.

Participate! Join us in the challenge! Even though we have been featured in the Washington Post, the good news is that it's free and registration is still open. Suitable for beginners+ who bring their stilts and can walk/balance on their own.

With at least dozen competitors, this is sure to be a spectacle not to be missed!

Suggested Hotels:

  • Courtyard Marriott **** (≈$140)
    A brand new, modern hotel is located in Friendship Heights, not far from food and subway stops. As a bonus, it is stumbling distance from the Friday opening night party.
  • Embassy Suites *** (≈$175, but double-bed suites will sleep up to 6)

Additional hotels may be available a short drive away, but parking can be a challenge. There may some roommate opportunities, contact DC Power Stilts for advice about lodging options.

Schedule
Friday (Oct 5) – Arrive & Check-in

7:30-11PM: Pizza Party with Artisan Pizzas! 

  • DC Power Stilts HQ (by invitation)
  • Capital Bocking kicks-off in Chevy Chase, MD at this invite-only party. Browse equipment, get your shirt, learn about the affiliate program, talk to acrobats and meet dedicated power stilt-walkers.
  • BYOB
  • Check in early and recieve points to get a head-start
  • RSVP Required for party invite

Saturday (Oct 6)

9:30-10:30AM: Friendship Heights Breakfast

  • Meetup at Whole Foods Freindship Heights
  • Start the day right with a continental or hearty breakfast at Tynan Coffee & Tea, Whole Foods Market, McDonalds, or Panera Bread.

11AM-11:30: Check-in and Challenge Practice

  • Meetup in Freedom Plaza
  • Check in / Review Participant Padding
  • Practice for the Monument Terrain Challenge.
  • Challenges outlined on the 2009 Page

11:30AM-1:00PM: Capital Terrain Stilts Challenge

  • Meetup in Freedom Plaza
  • If you haven't seen dozens of people on stilts leaping, bounding, racing, and doing acrobatics while competing for points, then you will not want to miss this spectacle. Most challenges are intermediate level and it's sure to be a great environment for learning a few new tricks.
  • Challenges outlined on the 2009 Page
  • At the end, we'll walk to lunch at F & 8th

1:30-2:30: Chinatown Lunch

  • Meetup at F & 8th St, NW (Entrance to the National Portrait Gallery)
  • Lots of Fast/Casual and lunch options in the vicinity
  • Split up for different resturaunt options or get your order to-go and meetup at the benches/steps at the door

3:00-4:00PM: Walk to US Capitol for Jump Photos & Practice

  • Meetup at F & 8th St, NW (Entrance to the National Portrait Gallery)
  • Walk to US Capitol grounds
  • Demonstrating/teaching jump styles.
  • Get pictures of jumping "over" the US Capitol
  • Earn points for participation and each type of jump performed
  • Inverted arials worth double points

4:00PM-4:30PM: Debriefing and Washington DC Trivia

  • Meetup at the US Capitol
  • Points for participation and good answers

Dinner in DC Area (On your own or with the group)

Sunday (Oct 7)

10 AM: Donut & Dupont Circle Walking Tour

  • Meetup at Dupont Circle
    19th & P Street NW
    Donut at Krispy Kreme Followed by
  • 1m walk to the White House

11:00-1:00PM: Capture the Flag on Stilts

2PM: Secret Points Swap

  • Meetup at Meridian Hill / Malcolm X Park
  • Competitors will sell their cause when the outcomes of scheming, skills and alliances will determine the winner. Who has the cunning to claim the top prize?
    Each competitor must give 5 or more points to another competitor.  (competitors will have 1 min to explain why they deserve points)]
  • Submit your points for the final tally. Person with the most points will have 1st choice of prizes.

2:30PM: Awards/Closing Ceremony

  • Submit your points for the final tally. Person with the most points will have 1st choice of prizes.

3-6:00PM: Public Tryout Lessons / Lunch

  • Meetup at Meridian Hill / Malcolm X Park
  • If you have been waiting to try a pair of stilts for yourself, DC Power Stilts will be offering the public a free opportunity to try it out. We'll supply instruction, helmets, and safety gear too!
  • Competitors can practice jumps and demonstrate tricks, learn something new!
  • Have lunch and hang out with the usual circus.

Weather Policy
Capital Bocking USA will be held, rain or shine. Inclement weather may affect the schedule, and alternative activities could take place. In the event of extended bad forecast, we will find an indoor area or trampoline space to practice.

Pads are required at all activities with DC Power Stilts.

We are celebrating 5 consecutive years of great weather for our weekend, but just in case you book your travel and get a rainy weekend, we would plan to engage in the following rainy-day activities:

 

Reports from past Capital Bocking
About a dozen experts from across the country (and from "across the pond") descended upon Washington DC, while leaping, bounding and performing acrobatics in competition attempting various challenges. Jumping and running mayhem, Backflips were executed, Points were swapped, Ice cream was consumed, and fun was had by all. Participants gave rave reviews.

Capital or Capitol?
Capital Bocking USA will visit the US Capitol. Use A as an adjetive denoting special prominence: ie We'll be in the Capital City of "red tape". Use O when referring to the building itself: our route will include a chance for photos at the US Capitol.
